Gale Craig, Painter
Biography and Statement:
The first thing that strikes you when you look at Gale Craig’s vibrant, colorful abstract paintings is that she paints from the heart. Her remarkable use of color reflects her passion for the mystical and healing arts. However, what is truly unique about Gale’s style is that you can feel the essence of spiritual energy in everything she paints.
“In my paintings, there is a strong feeling of movement, symbolic of the dynamic creative force in all things. It is the beauty and vibrancy of this universal energy that I try to capture in my paintings.”
Gale paints primarily in oils, acrylics and encaustics, a 2,000 year old process which uses heat to fuse layer upon layer of pigmented beeswax and damar resin. The wax delivers color in a way no other medium can, producing magnificent translucent effects.
Gale graduated from Rutgers University and has an MA from Middlebury College in Vermont. She moved to Sedona eleven years ago from the Washington DC area. Although her professional career has been as a research analyst and writer for the Department of Defense, painting has always been Gale’s passion.
Gale is a juried member of the Sedona Arts Center, Association of Village Artists, and Society of Layerists in Multimedia. She is also a member of the Sedona Visual Artists Coalition and the Northern AZ Watercolor Society. Her work is currently shown in Sedona at the Sedona Arts Center Gallery. Gale has been a featured artist during Sedona Open Studios. Her paintings have been exhibited at numerous juried regional and national shows and can be found in private collections nationally. Gale also designs one-of-a-kind jewelry marketed under Dancing Light Designs.
