Shirley Eichten Albrecht, Basket Weaver, Fiber Arts & Mixed Media

Shirley’s journey began as a child, drawing what she saw around her and later capturing it with a small camera. Her love of art continued through college receiving a degree in Art & Music from St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minnesota. She taught Art & Music in Minnesota and Art in Dallas, Texas as well as developed a freelance art business before moving to St. Louis, Missouri leading to a career in Advertising & Marketing.

It was while living in St. Louis she became intrigued with weaving baskets. It began as a hobby, weaving with friends in her basement and later teaching in the local Basket Supply shop, but it soon became a passion.

Her designs have evolved through the years, intrigued and inspired by the materials that she works with. Her move to Sedona in 2001, with its strong creative energy, has helped her to create new designs using Raku with basketweaving creating sculptural forms and wall hangings. She also uses antlers and gourds to create stunning wall hangings and sculptures that are one of a kind.
Shirley attends conferences to further her basketweaving. Shirley has taught numerous basketweaving classes and offers ongoing classes at her studio in Sedona and at the Sedona Arts Center.  She has exhibited her work in juried art exhibits and galleries throughout the country.
